About the East Gwillimbury Seed Library

The East Gwillimbury Seed Library was developed in partnership with the East Gwillimbury Public Library and East Gwillimbury Gardeners with the goal of supporting food literacy and to promote a love of gardening and our natural environment. The Seed Library can be found in the Holland Landing Library Branch.

How does the program work?

The East Gwillimbury Seed Library is free to access with an EGPL Library card. We ask that you please take only the seeds you need.

Please note: Although we do our best to test seeds we are unable to guarantee that they will germinate or grow.

What to know when planning

The hardiness zone for East Gwillimbury is generally 5B, typically meaning that the average last spring frost date is around May 20th; however this may vary from year to year and depend on your garden’s location.  Always watch the weather closely in the spring and be prepared to protect your plants from a frost should it occur.

Interested in donating?

The East Gwillimbury Seed Library relies on donations from community members and participants. Those interested in donating seeds can drop them off at both library branches during library operating hours. Seed donation guidelines are listed below:

• Seed should be under 2 years of age and have been stored in a dry, cool environment out of direct sunlight
• Seed should be labelled with: name of species and cultivar name (cherry tomato, "Red Delight" for example.) And if possible, include date harvested and any further growing instructions.
