How to Get a Card

Library cards are available for free for any resident of East Gwillimbury. To get your card you can:

  1. Visit your local branch with Proof of Address (this can be a drivers license or utility bill with your full name and address).
  2. Sign up for a Temporary e-Library Card online.

Your Library card will allow you to borrow items at both of our branches, access eBooks and digital magazines, and use our Digital Library to access services like LinkedIn Learning.

Not from East Gwillimbury? EGPL allows residents from across York Region, as well as Uxbridge and Bradford West-Gwillimbury, to get cards for free.

Using your Card

Your Library card has a 14 digit number that can be used in the branch and through our online catalogue to place holds, as well as through online services like Libby and LinkedIn Learning. When entering your card, please type all 14 digits without spaces (example: 22170XXXXXXXXX).

Through our online catalogue you can browse items and place them on hold for pickup in your local branch or the Library Lockers. You will be notified when your hold is ready for pickup.

Renewing Your Card

Library cards expire after 2 years, and will need to be renewed to check out items, access digital resources, or borrow eBooks.

If your card is expired, we ask that you visit your local branch with proof of address. If you are having difficulty arriving at a branch, or you are a patron using our Home Library services, or you have other circumstances preventing you from updating your card, please contact us at info@egpl.ca, by phone at 905 836-6492, or through our Ask-a-Librarian service available on our website.

My Card is Showing as Blocked

The East Gwillimbury Public Library doesn't charge overdue fines but we do have some restrictions if items are overdue. If your card has more than 6 items overdue, or over $20 in replacement fees, you will not be able to access your card until these are cleared. Contact your local branch for assistance.
