By now you might have read that our valued Interlibrary Loan Service has been suspended as of April 26th due to the provincial funding cuts to the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS). SOLS is a valued organization that facilitates the Interlibrary loan program. We have relied on this service to ensure our customers can access the books they wish to read, as we cannot carry all available titles. For our customers, this meant that almost 1000 items a year were brought in from Libraries across the province, and we loaned around 1000 materials to customers across the province. I have heard many stories about the value of the Interlibrary Loan service, including community members accessing family histories, or in one case, finding a long lost PhD dissertation for a family member that we were able to locate and bring to our local library for them.
I invite you to visit the library, check out a new bestseller, attend a program, or see all of the great things we have to offer. Our digital library collection continues to grow with new content and you can access it from the comfort of your home at anytime! The East Gwillimbury Public Library also has agreements with Aurora, Bradford – West Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Uxbridge, Vaughan and Whitchurch-Stouffville so that you can get a library card at any of these libraries and borrow material.
If you have any questions about this service change please don’t hesitate to contact me. Or if you wish to provide feedback on this change of service, you may wish to contact Michael Tibollo, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport at [email protected].
